In general, both rush and lottery tickets are easier to get if the show isn't selling that well. It's fast and easy, you know right away if you're successful or not. I actually prefer the TodayTix rush, which I'd done 4 times prior to the pandemic. While I've done in-person rush quite a few times, none have been recent. That was surprising, rush / lottery seats usually aren't that good, they're often farther to the side, though not always. You don't find out your seat location til you get to the theater, and this was the best I've ever gotten with lottery or rush: orchestra F1, 6th row aisle seat. Two were sold out of rush, but I was able to get Trouble in Mind. Yesterday I didn't look at TodayTix until 1pm and was considering three shows. The best strategy is to be ready to click on rush for the show you want in the app at exactly the time rush tickets become available (usually 10am). Do this in advance, because tickets can go very quickly. In the app, you go to the show's listing and "unlock" rush. While you can use their website to see which shows are offering rush through them, a rush purchase requires the app. Yesterday (Saturday evening) I got a rush ticket for Trouble in Mind through TodayTix.

At the end of September I entered the American Utopia lottery for four dates and won once.īoth of these were Lucky Seat lotteries which are more convenient than some others because (1) you can pick multiple dates in a week with a single entry (2) they notify you a day in advance (3) the price they display includes fees (4) there is usually a window of 4 hours between notification and purchase deadline.
